973area has new update 1 day ago NJ Nonprofit Has Donated Millions of Diapers to Local Families in Need
Bridget Cutler had just given birth to her first child in 2011 when she read an article about a mother forced to put her baby up for adoption because she couldn’t afford the child’s care. The story moved Cutler, who had more than enough, so she began collecting donations of baby essentials in her Hoboken community. Cutler’s future co-founder Megan Deaton, who had infant twins, began bringing products to Cutler. Soon, the two moms were working together. Every month they’d alert families in need, who would flock to Cutler’s garage to collect free supplies. Moms Helping Moms was born. The organization, which became a nonprofit in 2013, is now based in a warehouse in Warren Township and collects diapers, formula, gently used baby essentials and period products. Other organizations help distribute the donations across the state. According to the National Diaper Bank Network, one in two U.S. families can’t afford enough diapers to keep their children clean and healthy. Over 13 years, Moms Helping Moms has collected millions of diapers and accepted thousands of donations, with the help of more than 600 volunteers. The nonprofit has hosted diaper drives, spread advocacy and awareness, and improved the lives of countless babies and families. To donate or volunteer, visit momshelpingmoms.org.
